10th Annual Katrina Memorial Blood Drive
You can help save lives by donating blood in memory of those lost during Hurricane Katrina.
The American Red Cross is collecting blood at the Edgewater Mall today and tomorrow. This blood drive comes during the difficult summer months, a time when many donors postpone giving blood due to summer activities.
Right now, the demand is greater than the supply of blood at area hospitals.
Red Cross workers say just one hour of your time and a pint of blood could save up to three lives. Denise Smith with the American Red Cross said, “Take in all of the horrific events that have happened, especially in the South, over the last few months. You take a time frame when there’s a regular shortage and then you add to that an extra need based on shootings, even the floods and everything that happened. That adds to it. So, it compounds everything and that is what right now is what’s making it so important for us.”
You can stop by the Edgewater Mall to donate blood until 7 p.m. tonight or tomorrow between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. To make an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org. Walk-ins are welcome.
