New Zika Case On The Mississippi Gulf Coast

The Mississippi department of health reports one new travel related case of Zika virus right here on the coast in Harrison County. This is the second case of Zika reported this month in Harrison County bringing the number of the state’s total Zika cases to 17. Officials say the infected resident had recently traveled to Puerto Rico. Zika is a mosquito borne virus that causes severe birth defect in a developing fetus including brain damage, hearing and vision loss, and impaired growth if the mother is infected during pregnancy.
