Gulfport Firefighters Return from Rescue Mission

Gulfport firefighters return after a three day search and rescue trip in Louisiana.
The group responded to Baton Rouge Saturday morning within minutes of 1-12 closures. Gulfport firefighters worked closely with Louisiana National Guard and the Baton Rouge Fire Department to rescue as many residents as possible from rising waters.
Gulfport firefighter Chad Bryant tells News 25 there was very little down time during the trip, but everyone, from residents to city officials, couldn’t have been more appreciative of the extra help. “Once we were out on the city, it was just unbelievable to see the amount of water that there was in the residences. Definitely they welcomed us, responder wise. In the midst of all that tragedy of them losing their homes, when they got in that boat, right out of the first in, they would say, ‘y’all are a blessing. Thank God y’all are here.”
The crew returned home and immediately went to work, helping sort donations and load supplies donated by Coast residents for Louisiana flood victims.
