Bay St. Louis acting police chief removed from position

Bay St. Louis Acting Chief of Police Matt Issman was removed from his position this afternoon after just two weeks on the job.
The removal stems from an ongoing investigation involving a routine traffic stop that occurred last week.
Issman would not comment on the investigation, but he did tell News 25 he was removed from his position this afternoon via email from the mayor and doesn’t expect a face to face meeting with him. He was adamant about his stance to not be a quote “yes man” for the mayor when he took the position.
Issman tells News 25 why he feels there is a disconnect between the mayor’s office and the Bay St. Louis Police Department. “I don’t think he understands the police chief is the chief law enforcement officer. I’ve sent him a whole, long list of attorney general laws that state that, but he basically told me he doesn’t care about the law or the opinions.”
A statement released by Bay St. Louis Mayor Mike Favre stated quote: “Since the traffic stop incident Mr. Issman referenced, I have experienced a serious lack of communication from Mr. Issman. I questioned the integrity of the investigative process under his command. Mr. Issman has not been forthcoming with pertinent, relevant, investigative details. Mr. Issman’s indication that his separation stems from a disagreement is correct.”
