Former Gulfport City Councilwoman Passes Away

Thursday, former Gulfport City Councilwoman, Libby Milner Roland passed away after a battle with cancer. Milner Roland was known for her fighting spirit when assisting those most devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

She was first elected to the council in 2004. Thursday, the City of Gulfport released a statement about her passing. It says: "While we mourn the passing of our dear friend and colleague, we celebrate her life and legacy. In particular, the devotion shown to her family and dedication to her community stand as examples to all who had the privilege of knowing her." Recently, the city’s Westside Pier was dedicated to Milner Roland.

Justin Roland, the son of Libby Milner Roland, reads her letter: “I never thought I would get into Gulfport politics like my uncle, Joe Milner. I have always been able to challenge the adversities of my life, but to my dismay, the advance of breast cancer and lung cancer will take me. Please remember I love you all, and p.s., I’m sorry Kris Riemann, but you will have to make your own chocolate chip cookies from now on.”
