City of Gulfport adopts 2018 budget
Gulfport city officials say residents have a lot to look forward to with the start of a new fiscal year.
Gulfport officials adopted the 2018 budget during a special meeting at city hall this morning. In the $55.1 million budget, the city plans on hiring eight new police officers, adding two new domestic violence positions and dedicating expenses to provide additional help to fix sewage and drainage problems. Gulfport City Council member Ella Holmes Hines said, “We are on the right track. Mayor Hewes is helping us tremendously in trying to get on the right track to get some of the work that parallels not only what we’re doing with all of our properties here, for the aquarium and trying to get the VA up, but we hear so many complaints about what we have to do in communities and this budget addressed that.”
The fiscal year ends September 30th and the city’s new additions in the 2018 budget will take affect October 1st.
