Car stolen during test drive in Gulfport

It was a test drive gone wild. Officers say a man is in custody after stealing and then crashing a car he was test driving.
An agent from Kirk’s Auto Sales says he pulled into the McDonald’s on Pass Road around 11 this morning to allow 37-year-old Joshua Vandiver to test the orange Dodge Challenger out. Sgt. Joshua Bromen says Vandiver then took off in the car, traveling through Harrison County on I-10 before crashing shortly off the interstate.
The co-owner of the car dealership tells News 25 she is just glad that no one was injured. Kirk’s Auto Sales Co-owner Tara Merritt said, “Kirk went with him and they got as far as Lorraine Road and he wanted Kirk to be the driver back to the lot. Kirk said ‘that’s fine,’ he would and as soon as he stepped out to get into the driver’s seat that’s when he took off. We are very glad that he didn’t hurt anybody. We have found that he was driving crazy. Kirk and I are very grateful for that and that he let my husband come back.”
Merritt tells News 25 they have never experienced anything like this. Vandiver is charged with taking possession of a motor vehicle and was booked in the Harrison County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
