Former Southern Miss basketball standout awaiting contact from family

Another former Southern Miss athlete being affected by Hurricane Irma is Norville Carey, who starred for the Black and Gold on the basketball court. Despite playing his final season at Rider, Carey was a big part of the USM program during the rebuild era under Doc Sadler.
Carey is originally a native of the British Virgin Islands which took a direct hit from the storm yesterday. Here’s what he had to say about his family ties still in the area: “I haven’t heard from my family as of yet because power is out and phone lines are down. Everything is pretty much destroyed. I’m hoping my family is alright and just waiting patiently to hear from them.”
