Scott Colom’s campaign calls NRSC letter a ‘Desperate Stunt’ amid tight Senate race

JACKSON, Miss. (WXXV) – As Mississippi’s U.S. Senate race remains too close to call, Democratic candidate Scott Colom’s campaign is responding to a letter from the National Republican Senatorial Committee, or NRSC, regarding the ongoing vote count.

In a statement released Thursday, the Colom campaign dismissed the NRSC’s concerns and expressed confidence in the election process. Campaign Manager Gerard Henderson called the letter a “desperate stunt” by national Republicans and said the campaign expects the outcome to favor Colom once all ballots are counted.

“This desperate stunt from national Republicans is what you do when you know you’re about to lose a race. We’re confident that when every lawful ballot is counted, Scott Colom will be Mississippi’s next U.S. senator,” Henderson said.

The statement comes as election officials continue processing ballots in one of the closest statewide races in Mississippi in recent years. The contest between incumbent Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith and Democratic challenger Scott Colom remains unsettled, with both campaigns closely watching the count.

The NRSC letter referenced by the Colom campaign seeks additional scrutiny of election results as the razor-thin race continues.
