West Harrison Takes Down Ocean Springs 28-17
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV) — The West Harrison Hurricanes traveled to Ocean Springs Friday night and came away with a 28-17 victory over the Greyhounds.
Ocean Springs entered the matchup looking to build momentum and return to the win column, while West Harrison hoped to spoil the Greyhounds’ night on their home turf.
Tensions were evident early, as neither team shook hands following the opening coin toss.
The Greyhounds received the opening possession, with quarterback Chalmers Berglind leading the offense down the field. Running back Lanny Waltman picked up six yards on an early carry before connecting with Berglind on a third-down pass to move the chains.
Berglind later used his legs to pick up additional yardage, but the Greyhounds’ opening drive eventually stalled, forcing a punt.
West Harrison quarterback Kaylon Costict took over on the Hurricanes’ first possession, but an early fumble gave Ocean Springs an opportunity to capitalize. Greyhounds defender Kaegan Lymon recovered the loose ball, putting his offense back on the field.
However, Ocean Springs struggled to turn the takeaway into points. The Greyhounds sent out kicker Evan Ta for a field goal attempt, but the kick fell just short.
The Hurricanes regained possession and turned to their ground game. Costict handed the ball off for a solid gain before finding Austin McInnis on an outside run that picked up additional yardage.
Despite moving the ball, West Harrison’s drive stalled, forcing the Hurricanes to punt it back to Ocean Springs.
While both offenses faced challenges early in the contest, West Harrison ultimately found enough success to secure the victory.
The Hurricanes defeated the Greyhounds 28-17, handing Ocean Springs another loss in front of its home crowd.
