Dry and breezy conditions lead to fire concerns across South Mississippi
Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the week ahead
Tonight stays mostly clear with a lows dropping to the low and mid 50s inland, while we sit a little closer to the upper 50s at the coast.
We won’t see many changes over the weekend as Saturday is looking sunny again, with highs topping out in the upper 70s and east-northeast winds around 10 mph.
Sunday will also remain sunny, with temperatures reaching near 79 and northeast winds around 10 mph.
Elevated fire weather conditions are possible on Saturday across parts south Mississippi, as relative humidity values could drop into the 20% to 30% range, allowing the potential for dry vegetation to ignite more easily. Light winds could help limit fire spread, but ongoing drought conditions remain a concern.
Numerous burn bans are in effect across South Mississippi, with restrictions continuing to expand.
Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged over the next 7 days. Please continue to follow all local burn bans and avoid activities that could spark fires.
Mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s will continue next week too, with overnight lows generally ranging from the low to mid 50s and no significant changes expected in the forecast through the middle of next week.
