Harrison Central High School teacher Christian Bailey named Art Educator of the Year

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- A Harrison Central High School art teacher is being recognized for his contributions to art education.

Christian Bailey has been named the 2026 Mississippi Art Education Association’s Secondary Division Art Educator of the Year.

Now in his 21st year of teaching, Bailey helps students develop their creative skills through courses including advanced placement studio art and ceramics.

He also serves as a reader for the College Board’s AP Studio Art Portfolio Program.

Bailey is an award-winning artist who received a 2024 Mississippi Arts Commission Fellowship for his sculpture work. “It means a lot because its coming from the Art Educators Association. So, it’s all of the Art Educators in Mississippi that are members that went through and said ‘Hey you are the guy.’ Art is what I do.”

He’ll receive the honor Friday at the MAEA Fall Conference in Jackson.
