Biloxi Beautification Adoption program helps local man honor his grandfather
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- A Biloxi man is turning his love for a local landmark into a way to honor his grandfather.
The Biloxi Beautification Committee has approved Fred Lusk III’s adoption of the Kuhn Street Pier Area.
Lusk will now officially help maintain the site, though he says he already spends time there each day picking up litter.
He says the effort is a way to honor his late grandfather, who spent a lot of time at the pier. “My grandfather every day walked down the Kuhn Street Pier, and he sat down there, gossiped and fished and boat and everything. That was his little peace. That’s my little peace. That’s where I love to be in the world. And I, I go out every day. I pick up the trash, and I just enjoy the nature of it. It’s my little getaway. I want people to see what I see, and I post pictures every day about it, and I just want everybody to enjoy it like I do.”
Lusk becomes one of only a few official participants in the city’s adoption program.
Biloxi’s Beautification Committee’s next meeting is scheduled for November 4 at 11 a.m. at Biloxi City Hall.
