State Supreme Court upholds Jackson County man’s life sentence

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The Mississippi Supreme Court has upheld three life sentences for a Jackson County man convicted of multiple felonies.

Tony Howard Jr. was convicted last year of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, shooting into a vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Howard appealed, arguing the trial court improperly denied his request to delay the trial to obtain a second mental health evaluation.

The state’s high court found that Howard was ultimately granted an eight-month delay and received that second evaluation.
