Biloxi Fire Department’s ‘Fill the Boot’ Fundraiser wraps up
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)-The Biloxi Fire Department wrapped up its annual Fill the Boot Fundraiser Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters have spent the last few days at major intersections in the city, collecting donations to support those living with neuromuscular diseases.
This is a yearly tradition for the department and one of the firefighters say they really enjoy it. Captain Michael Willis said, “We’ve been going out to intersections in Biloxi and raising money for MDA. I believe this is the 72nd year that firefighters and the MDAs got together. It’s been since 1954, and it’s all about the kids. You know, firefighters can always get behind kids, and we don’t mind coming out here and raising some money for them. It looks-it’s always promising. The people of Biloxi are always willing to give back here. I know a few years ago we were like the highest in the in the area of raising money. Generally, I think we raise about $20,000 or so in the three days.”
The Fill the Boot Drive helps those suffering from muscular dystrophy and ALS, to support research care, and family advocacy.
