Women of Wisdom host October ‘Pow Wow’ Luncheon

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Food, fellowship, and a chance to connect. That’s what brought community members together in Gulfport for this month’s Pow Wow Luncheon.

Men and women of wisdom came together at the Knight Nonprofit Center in Gulfport for the October Pow Wow Luncheon.

The special gathering focused on building connections, sharing encouragement, and enjoying an afternoon of fellowship and fun. Women of Wisdom Founder/ President Robin Killeen said, “Today we were honoring the first responders, just everyone that is our local heroes, we gave them free food to honor them and recognize them. We’re going 27 years now; we started with seven people and today we have around 150. It blows our mind how it keeps growing and it’s because people want to feel loved and welcomed and that’s what we do and we tell them if they aren’t loved and welcomed, they stay after class and we’ll make sure that we take care of them.”

Guest speaker Starr Chapman, outreach officer with the Mississippi Office of the Attorney General, joined the group to share her message. Guests enjoyed a southern-style meal featuring beef brisket, barbeque chicken, and classic side dishes. “WOW’s motto is connect with us and you’ll fit right in, not everybody feels like they are connected or even know how to connect. So, go on out, network, and connect with your community and see what’s going on. Be curious about what’s happening and get involved, come get involved with WOW. We would love to have you.”
