Mobile man sentenced for 2024 kidnapping in George County

GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- A Mobile man will spend 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to carjacking and kidnapping in George County.

Thirty-seven-year-old Demetrius Young stole a woman’s vehicle with three children still inside in April 2024.

Authorities say the woman stopped to help Young after seeing his vehicle broken down on Highway 98.

When she told him she couldn’t give him a ride, Young pushed her aside and drove off with the children.

Law enforcement located and arrested Young a short time later.

Young also has a prior robbery conviction in Alabama, which factored into this sentencing.
