D’Iberville Remains Undefeated With 35-14 Win Over Ocean Springs

Our WXXV Game Ball of the Week matchup takes us to the Ocean Springs Greyhounds hosting the D’Iberville Warriors. The Warriors wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Quarterback Jordan Walley connected with sophomore Kori Gibbs on a deep sideline pass for a big first down before showing off his speed with a rushing touchdown. After the extra point, D’Iberville took a 7-0 lead.

Walley continued to lead the Warriors’ offense, using his legs to move the chains before setting up another scoring opportunity. Senior running back Christian Butler finished the drive by powering his way into the end zone for a touchdown, extending D’Iberville’s lead to 14-0 with five minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Ocean Springs looked to respond as quarterback Chalmers Berglind returned to the field and connected with junior running back Lanny Waltman for a first down. The Greyhounds later caught the Warriors off guard with a trick play on a punt formation. Instead of kicking the ball away, Ocean Springs snapped it to junior defensive tackle Michael Burbage, who picked up a first down. Berglind followed the trick play with a deep throw toward the sideline, where junior wide receiver Logan Carter made a leaping catch in tight coverage to move the chains.

However, D’Iberville’s defense answered with a big play of its own. Mississippi All-Star Julian Morris brought down Berglind for a quarterback sack, halting the Greyhounds’ momentum.

Ocean Springs managed to find the end zone twice later in the game, but the comeback effort fell short. D’Iberville held on for a 35-14 victory, improving to 7-0 on the season while handing Ocean Springs another tough test in Class 7A Region 4 play.
