VGA National Championship returns to the Coast
HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The road to a national championship has brought some of the best veteran golfers in the country to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Opening day of the VGA National Championship at Fallen Oak gave veterans a chance to meet their competitors, get a feel for the course, and prepare for the challenge ahead.
Each golfer earned their spot by advancing through their region, now representing both their region and branch of military service.
But for many, the VGA is about more than golf. It’s a chance to build camaraderie, find purpose, and keep moving forward. Lt. General Mike Ferriter said, “These men and women are from all across America and all walks of life and they rose, raised their right hand and said I will defend you America, I will take care of you and they did. And now they’re back and they need connection, they need each other, they want to have fun and they still got those competitive juices.”
The is the fourth time VGA National Championship has been held at Fallen Oak, bringing veterans from across the country together to compete for a red jacket.
