Cruisin’ the Coast kicks off with View the Cruise in Gulfport

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Despite weather conditions, fans showed up ready for another year of Cruisin’ tradition.

Cruisin’ the Coast is underway and fans are already enjoying the festivities despite weather conditions.

Rain or shine, thousands of classic cars filled Downtown Gulfport, turning the streets into a showcase of horsepower.

Classic muscle cars, vintage rides, and custom builds checked in at Cruise Central in Jones Park for day one of the 30th annual Cruisin’ the Coast before rolling out and putting on a show for the community. Cruiser Chris Liegl said, “I parked here last year and same deal. A little bit of rain, but a day in the rain at Cruisin’ the Coast is better than a day at work. We do this every year it don’t matter because we plan for it. These cars are made to be driven; they’re not going to melt. Just let them get wet, wipe them off, and do it all over again tomorrow. Yesterday it started raining and I wasn’t by my car. I got back to my car and the windows were rolled up and today some guy walked by, he was from Michigan, and he said Hey I rolled your windows up yesterday. So, it’s just a good community.”

The rain could not stop the fun at View the Cruise with food vendors and downtown businesses keeping the crowd fed, while fans took cover under tents and store fronts to stay close to the action. Neighbors Tap and Table Owner Matthew Bounds said, “We’re normally closed on Sundays, but we opened up today for View the Cruise. Even with the rain it’s been a lot of fun, we’ve had a lot of people coming in and out enjoying the bloody Mary’s out front. We’re having a good time.”

More Cruisin’ the Coast events and classic cars are expected to roll through the Coast all week long.
