State Department of Education releases chronic absentee report
The State Department of Education released the 2025-2026 chronic absenteeism report.
That report showing the state’s rate slightly decreased to 26.5 percent, that represents a little over 115,000 students who missed school.
The rate for 2024-2025 was 27.6 percent.
Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing ten percent or more of the school year for any reason, including excused or unexcused absences and suspensions.
Chronic absenteeism is lowest among 2nd through 5th grade, higher in kindergarten and first grade, and the highest in grades six through 12.
