Gulfport Admirals dominate Pascagoula 41-7 on homecoming night

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — It was homecoming night in the Port City, and the Gulfport Admirals gave their fans plenty to celebrate.

Coming off their first loss of the season, Gulfport looked to right the ship Friday night against the Pascagoula Panthers — and the Admirals did just that, rolling to a 41-7 victory.

The Panthers opened the game with the football and tried to get creative on their opening possession. Jason Glaude faked a double reverse flea flicker and looked for Arabian Johnson downfield, but the pass was overthrown.

On third down, Glaude handed the ball to Keelan Harper, who swept around the edge but was stopped short of the first-down marker. Pascagoula went three-and-out, giving the ball to Gulfport.

The Admirals wasted little time making an impact.

Jackson Wolverton connected with Javious Hales on a jailhouse screen, and Hales broke free and raced down the field before finally being brought down at the 2-yard line.

One play later, Amijai Frederick powered up the middle for the game’s opening touchdown. The extra point gave Gulfport a 7-0 lead.

Another three-and-out by Pascagoula gave the Admirals the ball back near midfield, and Gulfport’s offense continued to find its rhythm.

Wolverton handed the ball to JoJo Thomas, who powered through the Panthers’ defense for a tough run. A few plays later, Gulfport got the ball to its speedster again, with Thomas taking the pitch and racing all the way down to the Pascagoula 10-yard line.

Thomas finished the drive himself, punching the ball into the end zone for his second touchdown of the night.

The extra point extended Gulfport’s lead to 14-0.

From there, the Admirals continued to control the game on both sides of the ball, pulling away from Pascagoula and cruising to a 41-7 homecoming victory.

The win allows Gulfport to bounce back after its first loss of the season, while Pascagoula falls in the rivalry matchup.
