Mississippi community colleges to receive workforce funds

Mississippi is receiving more than $8.5 million in federal funding to expand short-term workforce training.

Governor Tate Reeves says the initiative will bring together all 15 of the state’s public community colleges, with Northwest Mississippi Community College leading the project.

The program will focus on in-demand fields including advanced manufacturing, shipbuilding, construction, information infrastructure, and health care.

The initiative is expected to serve more than 1,500 people and support at least 19 short-term training programs seeking eligibility for Workforce Pell Grants.

The goal is to connect more Mississippians with training for in-demand jobs while helping employers build their workforce.
