Frosty Mug in Wiggins receives grant for façade improvements
WIGGINS, Miss. (WXXV)- The Mississippi Power Foundation and Stone County Economic Development Partnership presented the Frosty Mug with funding for recent façade improvements.
The Frosty Mug received a $4,750 grant to help offset the cost of the $9,000 project. The improvements include removing the original sign that had been in place for more than 40 years, along with updates to the entrance and exterior of the building.
The project was part of a larger effort to improve the appearance of businesses throughout the downtown project. Frosty Mug Owner Chris Gollott said, “It feels fantastic! It’s a long time coming. We applied for it and we been working for it trying to find the right wood worker to make the sign. We’re using it to replace the sign we have out front because we’ve had the old sign since 1970. So, we finally have a new face for Frosty Mug when it comes to our signage. It’s been a fantastic, long, and hard drawn-out road that we we’re finally able to close the chapter. We want to enclose the front porch area and expand it down the north side of our wall. In our bay window, we’re going to put the old sign inside of that. We want to preserve it, so we have the wood worker trying to re-paint it and restore it so it looks newer. We want to have some of the older owners of Frosty Mug sign the sign to preserve the history of it. We’re going to frame it and mount it on the window. That way when people come in, they can actually see the Frosty Mug plaque that explains the story of it, who signed it, and when they owned it.”
The Frosty Mug is also looking ahead to its 66th anniversary celebration with a throwback vintage car show coming to Wiggins at the end of October.
