Summer-like heat will stick around for this weekend

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the forecast for south Mississippi

Tonight will be quiet and clear, with temperatures dropping to around 73 degrees. Saturday brings plenty of sunshine and a high near 95, making it another hot one. Winds will be light for much of the day before picking up slightly from the south during the afternoon.

Sunday will look a lot like Saturday, with another sunny and hot day and a high around 95. There is a small chance for a shower or thunderstorm during the afternoon, but most of the day should stay dry.

The rain chances become a little more noticeable Monday, when a 40% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms enters the forecast. Even with the added clouds and rain potential, temperatures will still reach around 93 degrees.

From Tuesday through Thursday, it’s more of the same general pattern: plenty of sunshine, afternoon shower and thunderstorm chances, and highs in the low 90s. Overnight temperatures remain on the warm side, generally in the low to mid-70s.

There is, however, a hint of change toward the end of the week. A northerly breeze develops Wednesday night into Thursday, and temperatures begin to ease back. By Friday, we could be looking at a high closer to 89 degrees with a northeast wind around 10 mph.
