New rules for watercraft access at Gulf Islands National Seashore

The National Park Service is expanding personal watercraft access for the Gulf Islands National Seashore.

For coastal residents, this means personal watercraft such as jet skis, part of a new executive order.

The range where boaters need to stay at a flat-wake speed has been reduced from 880 yards to 300 yards.

Outside of that, riders can operate at higher speeds.

The ruling is set to take effect on September 23.

This is part of the ‘Make America Beautiful Again’ plan, expanding recreational access while protecting public land.
