City of Hattiesburg unveils 70th mural

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WXXV)- The City of Hattiesburg is one step closer to their 100 mural goal.

Last week, mural 70 was unveiled in the downtown area of the city. It overlooks Gordon’s Creek.

Created by Julia Reyes with help from Hattiesburg Poet Laureate Jennifer Peterson and the Academy of American Poets, the mural celebrates the legacy of Etheridge Knight.

Inspiration from the design comes from Knight’s poem ‘Cell Song.’
