Moss Point families celebrate Labor Day with community event at Second Street Park
Moss Point, Miss. (WXXV) — Families from across Jackson County gathered Monday at Second Street Park in Moss Point to celebrate Labor Day and recognize the contributions of working families throughout the community.
The event, hosted by the Jackson County Democratic Executive Committee, featured free food, live music, prizes, family activities and fellowship for residents of all ages.
Several community leaders and elected officials addressed attendees, including State Representatives Jeramey Anderson and Jeffrey Hulum, along with Edward Good of Good Bros. Seafood and Allieariah Brown.
Organizers said the celebration was designed to bring people together while honoring the workers who help keep communities and industries moving forward.
Representative Jeffrey Hulum emphasized the meaning behind Labor Day, saying the holiday is about more than taking time off from work.
“Today is all about labor. It’s not a day off, it’s a day we come back together and understand what that means,” Hulum said. “Labor Day is a day where we can come together and thank the people for their labor, the ones who have come before us, the ones that are here now and the ones that are going to come.”
Hulum also spoke about the economic challenges facing many working families and the importance of supporting policies aimed at improving affordability and quality of life.
In addition to the festivities, organizers encouraged voter participation ahead of upcoming elections and stressed the importance of civic engagement within the community.
The annual event provided residents an opportunity to celebrate Labor Day while connecting with neighbors, local leaders and community organizations.
