Hit or miss showers expected through Labor Day Weekend

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the forecast for south Mississippi

Tonight will be relatively quiet, with a few showers or thunderstorms possible before midnight. Skies will gradually clear overnight, with temperatures settling into the mid-70s.

Saturday will bring another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially from late morning into the afternoon. Despite the rain chances, much of the day will be sunny, with highs topping out around 89 degrees.

The heat begins to build Sunday and Monday as storm coverage becomes a little more limited. Highs will climb into the lower 90s Sunday, with heat index values reaching around 105 degrees. Labor Day will be even warmer, with highs near 93 and another chance for afternoon thunderstorms.

The unsettled pattern returns more prominently Tuesday through Friday. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms will remain possible each day, while temperatures generally stay near 90 degrees. Overnight lows will remain in the mid-70s.
