Ocean Springs Volleyball remains perfect in regional play with Harrison Central sweep

Reigning State Champions Ocean Springs traveled to Harrison Central for a three-set showdown and closed out the match with a thrilling 26-24 win in the final set.

The Greyhounds controlled the first two sets, winning 25-6 and 25-13, but Harrison Central fought back in the third.

With the set tied 9-9, Ocean Springs turned to its offense. Alden St. Amant dug the serve before Taylor Douglas set up Layla Daley, who delivered a cross-court kill.

The Greyhounds continued to capitalize on their opportunities, with Daley passing to Douglas, who fed Ryleigh Register in the middle. Register hammered the attack down for another Ocean Springs point.

Harrison Central answered with a strong stretch of its own.

Makayla Clark delivered a kill to keep the Red Rebelettes within striking distance, and Shyann set Kiana Allen for another point as Harrison Central pulled within one at 16-15.

Then Douglas made one of the night’s biggest plays.

After digging a hard-hit ball, the Ocean Springs setter followed the play and attacked from the back row, catching the Harrison Central defense off guard and keeping the Greyhounds in control.

But the Red Rebelettes wouldn’t go quietly.

The third set remained tight all the way to the finish, with both teams trading points as Harrison Central pushed the defending state champions to the limit.

With the match on the line, Ocean Springs needed just one more point — and Daley delivered.

She fired an ace to seal the 26-24 third-set victory and complete the sweep.

Ocean Springs won the match 25-6, 25-13, 26-24.

The Greyhounds remain perfect on the season at 7-0 and sit atop the region standings.
