City of Gulfport releases details on proposed 2027 budget
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- The City of Gulfport released its proposed 2027 budget Thursday afternoon.
Mayor Hugh Keating says this is a balanced budget, which includes a two percent raise for all city employees, and an additional two percent for firefighters.
It also sets aside $500,000 for police vehicles and more than $900,000 for parks and recreation improvements.
The city will also absorb a $750,000 increase in employee health insurance costs.
However, Mayor Keating says the city has cut spending to what he calls ‘the bare minimum,’ and warns officials may have to consider new ways to increase revenue in the future.
A public hearing on the proposed budget, which still needs city council approval, is set for next Wednesday, September 2 at 5:15 p.m. at Gulfport City Hall.
