Rain chances increase by mid week

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the forecast for south Mississippi

Tonight, skies will gradually clear, with temperatures falling to the mid 70s. Tuesday will bring plenty of sunshine, and highs will reach around 92 degrees with heat index values climbing as high as 105. A chance of showers and thunderstorms develops in the afternoon, although not everyone will see rain.

The weather pattern becomes wetter beginning Wednesday. A better chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected, with the best opportunity coming during the afternoon and evening. Despite the increased rain chances, temperatures will remain hot, with highs near 93 and heat index values reaching around 106.

Thursday currently looks like the wettest day of the week. Showers and thunderstorms will be likely throughout the day, with a much higher chance of precipitation. High temperatures should reach 90 or the low 90s, with mostly cloudy skies helping keep temperatures a little lower.

The unsettled pattern continues Friday, with another chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon. Highs will again be near 91 degrees.

Rain chances decrease somewhat over the weekend, but scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms will remain possible with highs in the low 90s.
