Long Beach Tops St. Stanislaus 17-10 in Jamboree

It was a dogfight between the Rock-a-Chaws and Bearcats. We begin our highlights with the Rock-a-Chaws on offense with their new Canadian quarterback, Max Bernard. Max drops back and gets a warm South Mississippi football welcome by Dylon Foxworth, who was an absolute menace all night, intercepting the pass right there. Great play recognition by the junior linebacker.

Not to be outdone, Rock-a-Chaws junior defensive back Lex Rhodes intercepts the ball and takes it down into the red zone.

Knocking on the door now, Bernard hands it off to Drake Schmitt, who takes it in for the easy six. Following the extra point, it’s now 10-3 with the second quarter winding down. How do the Bearcats respond?

Well, it won’t take long. Derek McDonald scrambles to his right and says, “Screw it, Alsaker is down there somewhere.” Alsaker hauls in the catch and says, “See you later.” Touchdown! Put it on the board! The extra point makes it 10-10.

It was a long night for Max Bernard, who was scrambling for his life out there. An intentional grounding call backs the Rock-a-Chaws up into their own end zone, and Dylon Foxworth’s strip-sack puts another six on the board. That’s how we will end this first half, following the extra point, making it 17-10.

And that will go on to be the final score at Lumpkin Magee Stadium, as both teams now have their sights set on Week One.
