Two Coastal cities issue burn bans amid dry conditions
HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The cities of Waveland and Bay St. Louis are still under a burn ban, as extremely dry conditions continue to create an increased wildfire risk.
All current burn permits are void and suspended, while fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, and open burning are prohibited until the ban is lifted.
The use of propane and gas grills are still allowed, but residents are being asked to use them responsibly and take extra precautions to prevent fires from spreading. Bay St. Louis Deputy Fire Chief Ronald Avery said, “The City of Bay St. Louis is under a burn ban until further notice. We’re dealing with wildfires off of Lake Drive, Blue Meadow Road, and on 603 in Bayou Lacroix. It’s just dry right now and that’s why we’re asking residents to pay attention and not burn until further notice.”
