Special Needs Project Award
A Jackson County three-year-old received a special award this afternoon for her strength and resilience.
Mariyah Danell Kimble was born with a mild case of Down syndrome and had open heart surgery at just ten months old. After years of hard work and support, Mariyah is now off of all medications and can function like most girls her age.
Today, she received the first ever “Yes I Can” Brilliance Award. The award is part of a new project called Skies are the Limit that aims to help children with special needs. Founder of Skies are the Limit Danell Perry said, “We never know what they go through. We never know the prayer or support they may need, the counseling.”
Sonia Kimble, Mariyah’s mom, said, “It really means a lot to know that there is something out there to think about the disabled or kids with disabilities, to take out their time to represent them and let them be seen and let them shine a little bit.”
In addition to her plaque and certificate, Mariyah also received a free photo shoot with the TV character of her choice.
