Ocean Springs High School lockdown lifted after student threat deemed not credible

Approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18th, 2026, Ocean Springs High School activated a school lockdown for precautionary reasons after threats were made by a student on campus.

The lockdown has since been lifted, and students and staff have returned to their normal schedule.

After a thorough search and investigation, OSSD Police and school administration identified the person responsible, and determined the threat to not be credible.

The lockdown has since been lifted, and there is no threat to OSHS and OSSD.

OSSD PD will continue its investigation to determine potential criminal charges. The school district said in a statement “we want to emphasize that our students and staff are safe on our campus. OSHS will continue on a normal schedule tomorrow, with an increased security presence around campus to ensure our students and staff feel as comfortable as possible.”
