Long time Ocean Springs civic leader Melanie Allen passes away

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)- Ocean Springs city and community leaders are mourning the loss of a beloved civic advocate.

Melanie Allen died over the weekend.

Allen was the president of the Historic Ocean Springs Association, where she worked tirelessly with other community stakeholders to preserve historic Ocean Springs sites and landscapes and was involved with many other civic efforts over the years.

Allen also ran for mayor in 2021, losing to Kenny Holloway.

The city posted a tribute to Allen online, saying her love for the city touched many lives and that her legacy will carry forward in the years to come.
