Bayou Cumbest woods fire under control, smoke expected to linger Monday

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- A woods fire that flared up Sunday afternoon and led to the evacuation of a number of people in the Bayou Cumbest area is currently under control.

County fire crews say hundreds of acres have been impacted by the fire, and crews continue to put out the remaining hot spots.

Images from yesterday’s firefighter efforts show how thick the smoke got in certain areas.

At one point, ten homes were threatened by the flames, but fire crews were able to contain the spread and spare the homes.

Smoke is expected to linger throughout the area Monday, as those firefighting efforts continue.
