Warm tonight with hotter days ahead
Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the week ahead
Tonight will be quiet and mostly clear, with temperatures settling into the upper 70s. A southwest breeze around 5 to 10 mph will continue overnight.
Thursday brings plenty of sunshine and a high near 95 degrees. With humidity factored in, heat index values could climb as high as 109 degrees. If you have outdoor plans, especially during the afternoon, take the heat seriously and make sure you have plenty of water and opportunities to cool down.
Friday will be another hot and sunny day, with temperatures reaching around 96 degrees and heat index values again approaching 109.
The weekend starts even hotter. Saturday will be sunny with a high near 97 degrees, followed by another warm and mostly clear night with temperatures in the upper 70s.
Sunday could bring a few isolated showers or thunderstorms during the afternoon, but most of the day will remain sunny and hot. Highs will again reach around 97 degrees.
The heat doesn’t let up early next week. Monday could reach 98 degrees, with Tuesday potentially climbing to around 99 degrees. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms returns Tuesday, but widespread rain is not expected.
