Warm tonight, with heat building into the weekend

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the forecast for south Mississippi

Tuesday night is looking mostly clear and quiet, with temperatures falling into the upper 70s and a south wind around 5 to 10 mph keeping the night feeling relatively warm.

Wednesday and Thursday will be sunny and hot again, with afternoon temperatures reaching closer to the mid 90s. The combination of heat and humidity will push heat index values as high as 106 degrees, with winds becoming more southerly during the afternoon.

The heat really begins to ramp up Friday and into the weekend. More sunny and hot weather is expected, with temperatures climbing to the mid and upper 90s at the coast. Saturday could be the hottest day of the stretch, with highs near 98 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

Sunday will remain hot, with a high near 97 degrees. There is a slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm, but most of the day is expected to remain sunny and dry.

The heat continues into next week. Monday could reach around 98 degrees, while Tuesday may climb to near 99 degrees. Each afternoon will carry a brief window for the showers and thunderstorms to develop, but widespread rain is not expected this week.

With several afternoons featuring temperatures in the mid to upper 90s and high humidity, heat index values will make it feel even hotter. Make sure to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks from the heat and limit prolonged outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
