High speed chase leads to drug arrests in Pearl River County

Narcotics Arrest

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- A high-speed chase in Pearl River County earlier this month led to the arrest of two people on drug charges.

Investigators say they tried to stop a Nissan Altima on I-59 near Poplarville on August 1, but the driver took off, leading deputies on a pursuit for about 22 miles.

Deputies say they saw items being thrown from the car during the chase.

The driver, 38-year-old Justin Sims, and passenger, 28-year-old Charaman Jefferson, were arrested after the car became disabled.

Investigators say they found meth, torn plastic baggies, and a weapon inside.

Sims now faces a list of charges, including felony failure to stop, tampering with evidence, as well as drug and weapons charges.

Jefferson is charged with possession of a controlled substance.
