Staying hot with better rain chances arriving over the weekend

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the week ahead

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with just a slight chance of lingering evening showers or thunderstorms before temperatures settle into the upper 70s.

Friday will feature a mix of sunshine and clouds with only isolated thunderstorms developing late in the afternoon. Most communities will stay dry, but if a storm develops, expect brief heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.

Saturday looks very similar with highs in the mid 90s and another isolated chance for an afternoon storm. If you’re spending time outdoors, be sure to take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, and never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.

The weather pattern begins to change late Saturday night as moisture increases ahead of the next disturbance. That leads to a much better chance of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, when rain chances climb to around 60 percent. While it won’t be a washout, expect scattered to numerous storms throughout the day that could provide some much-needed relief from the heat.

Early next week, temperatures remain near 92 degrees with typical summertime afternoon storm chances continuing each day.
