Jeff Davis Elementary Has Highest Number of Military Kids

Tuesday’s warm weather worked out well for the Veterans Day ceremony at Jeff Davis Elementary School in Biloxi.

About 800 children sang patriotic songs on the school’s back lawn as parents and veterans looked on. The school is located right next to Keesler Air Force Base. According to school officials, about half of the students at Jeff Davis are children of military personnel, the most for any school on the Gulf Coast.

Ricky Reed, Assistant Principal of Jeff Davis Elementary, says, “We’re sitting right here in the back of Keesler Air Force Base, so we have a lot of military personnel. They literally walk across the street everyday with their children and bring them to our school. So we definitely love our military and we love our military parents, and it really adds a great touch to the school, especially when you do something like this.”

The children sang songs like America the Beautiful, My Country Tis of Thee, and of course, The Star Spangled Banner.
