Officials cut the ribbon on new Stone High School campus

STONE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- Stone County leaders welcomed the community inside the brand-new Stone High School Thursday, giving the community a first look at the campus they will call home when classes begin next month.

Superintendent Boyd West said, “Welcome home. This is their school. This belongs to the community. These kids they deserve it. And we’re looking forward to having them in.”

Superintendent West is excited about welcoming students and staff to their new home. The wait for Stone High School’s new campus has been a long time coming for many, but the day is finally here.

Angelia Parker is a teacher at Stone High. She believes students will be just as impressed by the new space as she is. “I think the anticipation has been for several years now. They’ve watched it being built out here on the highway. They can drive by and watch it, so I think they’re excited too.”

From academics and the arts to athletics, there is something for every student.

The new campus also includes a first for the Tomcats: their very own football stadium. School officials say the goal is to have it ready for their first home game.

While there are still a few final touches to complete before students return August 3, leaders hope the investment helps Stone High reach new heights. “Well, I hope they’re impressed with what their tax dollars have paid for these kids. I think that the investment that’s made in our students and their futures is an incredible gesture by their community.”

School officials say the campus was designed to grow with the county and could one day expand even further.
