Child abuse and neglect investigation leads to arrest in George County
GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)-A woman is behind bars in George County after the sheriff’s department received a report regarding a case of possible child neglect.
The George County Sheriff’s Office received the report and immediately began an investigation into the welfare of the child. Through the investigation, it was determined that the child was living in deplorable and unsafe conditions and had been subjected to abuse.
As a result of the investigation, 27-year-old Amanda Gunther was arrested and charged with felonious child abuse. She remains in custody on a $35,000 bond.
According to the sheriff’s office, the child has been removed from the environment and is in a safe location.
The George County Sheriff’s Office continues to actively investigate this case, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
