Rain chances begin to fade on Thursday

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the week ahead

A few showers will remain possible tonight as lingering tropical moisture continues to move across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Some storms could produce brief heavy rainfall, but most areas will see less than a quarter inch of rain. Overnight lows will stay warm near 79 degrees with breezy southeast winds around 20 mph.

A few showers and thunderstorms may linger Thursday morning before skies turn mostly sunny by the afternoon. Highs will reach around 90 degrees with a steady south wind of 15 to 20 mph.

After Thursday, the forecast turns much quieter as high pressure strengthens over the Gulf Coast. Sunshine will dominate through the weekend and into next week, with only isolated rain chances and a steady warming trend.

High temperatures will climb into the lower 90s Friday before reaching the mid 90s Saturday. By Sunday through Tuesday, afternoon highs are expected to soar into the upper 90s, with some inland locations nearing or topping 100 degrees.

The combination of hot temperatures and Gulf humidity will make it feel even hotter, so if you’re spending time outdoors or at the beach, be sure to stay hydrated, and take breaks in the shade or AC.
