Seabees’ Back to School Bash

What better way to end the summer and start getting into school mode than to celebrate with a back to school bash? Well, that’s exactly what the Navy Seabee Base in Gulfport provided for their military families.
Students and parents were invited to go out with a bang before the school year begins, celebrating with educational booths and safety information. Children engaged in the outdoor activities with a knockerball tournament and even a dunking booth.
Every year, they incorporate this event with the Night out on Crime event and this gets the children more involved with law enforcement. NCBC Director of Youth Programs John Hartsell said, “It’s a night out where you can come out and, like I said, get your kids finger printed so that they can be identified, you know, if something happens to them, but also it’s just a night to recognize the citizens who fight crime. It’s a night to gather together against being out on the streets.”
Parent Kimberly Dean said, “Every year they do this and it’s really appreciated and the kids really enjoy it. When they do the fire training for the kids, every year it seems like it is educational.”
Over 500 people attended this year’s back to school bash.
