Harrison County officials hold emergency meeting regarding tropical system
HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- With tropical storm watches now in effect along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Harrison County leaders are taking steps to prepare for the tropical system.
This morning, the Harrison County Board of Supervisors called an emergency meeting.
Harrison County EMA officials discussed response plans and storm readiness efforts.
Self-serve sandbag locations are now open across the county for residents who may need them.
County leaders are also encouraging people to review their emergency plans and make sure emergency supply kits are fully stocked. Harrison County EMA Director Matt Stratton said, “We do have a partial activation of the Harrison County Emergency Operations Center at this time. We’re bringing in the necessary staffing to coordinate our operations and to conduct activities. A lot of the preparation and securing of equipment and facilities can be done within our normal course of business. But you know, if we need to bring in additional manpower, we have opportunities to do that, and we’re going to continue on our daily cycle of planning for the next day’s operations and holding our planning meetings each day.”
Officials say those preparations should extend beyond this particular system. They urge residents to stay ready throughout hurricane season and use this as an opportunity to better prepare for future storms.
