Gulfport PD reminding drivers to slow down on the roads

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- The Gulfport Police Department is reminding drivers on the Coast that speeding can wreck lives.

The department shares that nearly 11,300 people were killed and just under 317,000 were injured in speeding related crashes for 2024. Speeding was a factor in 29 percent of all traffic deaths.

Driving above the posted speed limit can reduce a driver’s ability to maneuver.

It also increases the distance required to come to a complete stop, also making it dangerous for other drivers and pedestrians to judge a car’s speed and distance.

The department ended by saying, no destination is worth risking a life.
