City of D’Iberville planning for future growth

D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (WXXV)- After receiving a $5 million federal grant, the City of D’Iberville is moving forward with its Mallet Road improvement project.

City leaders say the upgrades will help ease traffic congestion, improve safety, and support future growth in the area.

Officials hope to put the project out for bid this fall. Construction is expected to start in late 2026 or early 2027.

The federal grant provides the final funding needed to make the project a reality. D’Iberville City Manager Bobby Weaver said, “So, we have a lot of traffic volume capacity issues with the number of lanes that we have, how we move traffic, there’s safety issues with accidents, particularly at the intersection that’s behind me here. We hope to be out for bids here sometime this fall, with construction starting late 26 or early 2027. So, this grant we were awarded is kind of the last piece of the puzzle that makes us whole financially.”

Right now, city leaders say a major retailer may be looking to bring its first Mississippi location to the Popps Ferry Corridor. “Tuesday evening, the council approved a resolution declaring our intent to support incentives for BJ’s Wholesale. BJ’s Wholesales is a company that has nearly 300 sites throughout the country, predominantly East Coast, they’re moving west. D’Iberville will be the first location in Mississippi that they’re coming to. It’s not 100% I want to make sure we stress that. We approved the resolution to declare our intent. They have asked us to work towards a development agreement.”

City officials say they hope to have a development agreement in place within the next month.

If this does become a reality, we could see progress in about 18 months.
